Everyone is materialistic and superficial in a way. We can’t help that we just want these luxury goods. To give in to temptation is normal. It’s what makes us human.
These luxuries, however, does not make a person. And often times, we forget that, so we’d grow resentment because we didn’t get the things that everyone around us seems to have, like the new iPhone or a car. But say you do get all of that, how long can those items make you happy for? Days? Weeks? Months? Then what happens when you find something better?
The bottom line is that you’re always going to want things, but you won’t always need it. Be happy with what you have. Be thankful if you have more. Be resourceful if you have less. It sounds a bit cliche but, the happiest people does not always have everything; they make the most of what they have.
And I can honestly say that I love everything I have right now. I might not have a million friends, but I have friends who were willing to listen to me cry, and laugh with me till our guts explode. I have people who loves me and people that I love. I have siblings who I don’t fight with everyday, yet loves me regardless of my stupidest mistakes and is willing to share their knowledge with me.
So, how about you? Take a minute and step back to see what you have and stop focusing on what you don’t have.
